On Friday, September 11, our beer league team, the Bandits, took on the University of Alabama women's hockey team at the Pelham Civic Complex. We put the whole thing on camera and streamed it live and free on YouTube, with full play by play, color commentary, multiple cameras, and a broadcast score bug.
The full broadcast has passed 36,000 views and it is still climbing.

How the Broadcast Came Together
- Two weeks of buildup. A daily video story ran across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook leading into game night, so the audience was already invested before puck drop.
- A real broadcast. Play by play and color commentary from the booth, multiple camera angles, and a live score bug for the entire game.
- Free to watch. The stream was live and free on YouTube, and the full game stays up permanently.
- A cause behind it. Ten percent of every sponsorship dollar on the broadcast was pledged to the University of Alabama women's hockey program.
What Sponsors Got
The game was presented by Men's League Sweaters. The presenting spot put their name in the stream title and thumbnail, their logo on the score bug for the whole game, and live reads from the booth every period. Because the full game stays online, those placements keep working long after the final horn.
This is the model for every Slapstick broadcast. Build the story before the game, call it like a real broadcast, and leave it up so the event, the teams, and the sponsors keep getting seen.
What Is Next
Next up is the Rocket City Iron Cup, Alabama vs. Auburn, on Friday, November 20 in Huntsville, live on ESPN+. See the full schedule for everything else on the calendar.
